How to be popular on myspace Part 2

By now you've read my insanely useful article: How to be popular on MySpace part 1. Well, now we're gonna start talking to people to see what works and what doesnt when trying to meet people!

By now you've got an awesome profile and people are probably sending you messages! If not, dont worry! We'll get that started right now.

Picture 5.pngThe best way to find interesting people that you may be able to meet is to "browse" for people in your area. Put in your zipcode, and the type of people you are looking to meet. I would just put single women (or men if you are a woman or gay man) within 5 or 10 miles of my zip code that are aged 21 - 27 or something similar. Then, browse the profiles and pick out a few you like.

The Neg
Im going to introduce you to a pick up artist technique called "the neg". It wont work on everyone, but generally it works well on good looking people (im not sure how well it works on guys). The idea of a neg is that it is a backhanded compliment. A commonly used example is "Nice nails! Are they real?".

Take a look at the persons pictures, and pay them a backhanded compliment - or say something where they will feel like they have to qualify themselves to you. What most dumbasses do is they will see a picture they like and send the person a message saying "Damn girl, you're smoking!" or something similar to that. The person will probably not respond to that. What they will respond to is something along the lines of "Why dont you ever smile in any of your pictures? You're kinda cute like my little sister:)". Most good looking people on myspace will have some sort of "bitch shield" up to random strangers saying things to them. However, if you point out something that no one else has, they will feel compelled to qualify themselves to you and win you over.

Banter
You can use a neg a few times in conversation to banter back and forth. If you do it too much, they take it as offensive and will stop talking to you. Alternatively, you may want to ask them a question that makes them think, or something that they will feel like they want to share their opinion about. Look at their profile for clues on this. I sometimes say that I am new to houston and I need to know the hot places to go for dancing or something like that. This does two things. It makes them curious about from where you came and also has them think about what cool places they would recommend so as not to disappoint you.

Moving from myspace to the real world
This is probably the hardest step. It is definitely a lot easier if the other person asks you first. Basically, you should at some point start talking about what you like to do. I've tried a few things that seem to work. Challenge the person by saying things like "We could never hang out - we are too similar! We would argue all the time!". Question them about how fun they actually are. You want the other person to invite you to a location where they are going with friends. This is much better than trying to set up a "date" per se. Remember, if you are a guy inviting a woman, the chances of her coming are slim to none by herself. Suggest that she bring her friends to the place you guys will be. It helps if there is a special event going on there that night. If you are a guy and the girl invites you somewhere, the best thing to do is show up with some girls also. This gives you additional credibility as a guy who women find attractive.

Remember... dont take anything too personally. You will get rejected more than you will be invited out. The success rates at a bar / in person are much higher than online, but you can cover a lot of ground much faster online and it is easier to pick out people that you would want to spend time with.

Have fun!

How to be popular on Myspace part 1

Myspace is the ridiculously popular social networking site now owned by Australian media mogul Rupert Murdoch. There are tons of people on myspace and oodles of hot girls and guys. People browse through profiles all the time to check their owners out. We are obsessed with learning about strangers. So, how do you maximize your profile so strangers will obsess over you? Read on!

my myspace profile picThe profile image

This is essentially the first point of attraction. It's gotta be catchy and it's gotta be good. If you are attractive, focus in on it. If you are not attractive, it's really important to make it interesting. Im OK looking, but I decided to take a really crazy picture with my Photo Booth on my Mac and use that. On a page filled with profile images, mine definitely stands out enough that people will look a little longer. The pic doesnt have to be of you, but people are less likely to click if it is your dog or a beer bottle

Other Pics

With your other pictures, you want to show a wide range of things going on. Show yourself partying with lots of different people. Go out for a few nights and bring a camera with you. If you're a girl, take pictures with lots of different guys. If you're a guy, lots of different girls. The better looking the other people are in your pics, the better you look & the more fun you look like you're having. If you seem like a fun person, then people will want to get to know you.

The profile

So, you want to cast the widest net so that people will relate to you. No no no! Be certain about what you like, but also be a little vague in your details. If you lay out your entire life in your profile, there is nothing left for people to learn about you. Avoid the "I grew up in Plainsboro NJ and moved to blah blah blah". That's boring as heck. Make yourself mysterious and intriguing. Instead of saying you are a regional sales representative for xyz widget company, make a joke and say you are a professional superhero. Get imaginative and make it interesting.

Themes

People go all out with their themes on myspace. Im not a big fan of them, but that is just a personal preference. If you do put up a theme, make sure it doesnt take away from the functionality of your page. If people cant read it or use it, it's useless. Also stay away from too many flashing images. That wasnt cool on the net in the 90s and it isnt cool now.

Friends

Make sure you have a good base of existing friends on your profile. I would say that 20 - 30 is probably the minimum you want. Dont go around myspace asking everyone to be your friend so that you end up with 400 friends. You are not Tom. Get your friends to give you credibility by writing on your page and commenting on your pics. The more other people have to say about you, the more cred you get. It's kind of like a seal of approval. If you have a really good friend, make sure they dont bombard your page. You want to show variety and depth.

Once you've built up your profile, you're ready to go and meet people! Tune in next time to learn how.

Your bachelor pad: How to keep women staying longer

So you're a geek & lets say when you go on a camping trip, or to a lan party, there are certain things that are must haves when you go! Well, this is a list of must haves to keep the women staying longer when you successfully get them to come over.

The Living Room

  • Comfy sofa that is good for snuggling and watching a movie (blanket is good too!)
  • DVDs that girls want to watch (go look at myspace profiles). They dont necessarily have to be ones you dont want to watch
  • Nice artwork on the wall. You want to show you have taste!
  • Decent T.V. and Stereo. Girls dont find it sexy to watch movies on your laptop.
  • Interesting coffee table books - travel, architecture, art, something you are interested in

Refreshments

A woman isnt going to stay very long if she is parched or hungry. They, unlike guys cant live on beer and cereal alone. Have the following things available:

  • Diet Coke, San Pellegrino (sparkling water), Fruit Juice
  • Chocolate (good stuff), Mixed nuts & other snacks, Hersheys Syrup (for chocolate martinis and a whole lot more), Fresh fruit
  • Champagne (have both cheap and good depending on the woman), Red Wine, White Wine, Good Vodka (Belvedere, Grey goose), Godiva Liqueur (for chocolate martinis)

The Bathroom

Everyone has to go to the bathroom eventually. Make sure yours is clean! If you pass that test, make sure there it has the following things to keep her smelling and feeling clean:

  • Nice hand soap is a must. You may not wash your hands after going to the bathroom, but have some soap so she can
  • Hand Lotion (smaller nice ones from l'occitane en provence will go over really well)
  • Nice towels (both hand and bath towels - one for you and one for her)
  • Mints, gum (this way if she has bad breath, she can be discreet about fixing it.

The Bedroom

If you've played your cards right and gotten this far. Here is what I would recommend

  • Stereo for playing "mood music". Get an iPod Hi-fi and have a playlist set up with your favorite sexual songs. Dont use your laptop, or play things through your xbox. Keep it simple so you can focus on her, and not the technology
  • Candles - to set the mood and allow you to see if she prefers to turn off the lights
  • Massage oil / bar - for a little fun
  • Condoms - discretely within reaching distance from your bed (in case you get lucky)

This is just a simple list to get you started. Add some personal touches to each of these areas to let the woman know how unique and interesting you are. You want your place to be somewhere she is comfortable and where she feels like she gets insight into you.

Good Luck!

Awards Verification Center aka Silverleaf Resorts aka – that blue postcard in the mail!

I got a postcard from Awards Verification Center - 2400 W. Pioneer Pkwy, Suite 210 Arlington, TX 76013 and found a hilarious post by a guy who went there just to mess with them. The company seems to be Silverleaf Resorts who also doesnt seem to respect telemarketing laws, got busted by the FCC and has numerous complaints at the Dallas Better Business Bureau (BBB)

I really like how this guy dealt with them. It never astounds me at how stupid American society is to aid and abett a company as corrupt and greedy as this one grow to a Market cap of 88 million. This should be a penny stock, not a $2 stock. These guys have 23 million in net income. This crap drives me crazy.

Is Bush to Blame for New Orleans Flooding?

Some critics are suggesting President Bush was as least partly responsible for the flooding in New Orleans. In a widely quoted opinion piece, former Clinton aide Sidney Blumenthal says that "the damage wrought by the hurricane may not entirely be the result of an act of nature," and cites years of reduced funding for federal flood-control projects around New Orleans.

Our fact-checking confirms that Bush indeed cut funding for projects specifically designed to strengthen levees. Indeed, local officials had been complaining about that for years.

It is not so clear whether the money Bush cut from levee projects would have made any difference, however, and we're not in a position to judge that. The Army Corps of Engineers – which is under the President's command and has its own reputation to defend – insists that Katrina was just too strong, and that even if the levee project had been completed it was only designed to withstand a category 3 hurricane.

Factcheck.org does a thoughtful analysis of the suggestion that the catastrophic flooding in New Orleans may not be the sole responsibility of Hurricane Katrina.

Airport Screeners Could Get X-Rated X-Ray Views

The New York Times is reporting on a new technology that Homeland Security would like to use in the airports to give underskilled screeners a free peek at passenger's privates! The ACLU will have a field day with this one. I guess that in the "post 9-11 world", even your privates are not private.

I am looking at a copy of an ad that ran in the back of comic books in the 1950's and early 1960's. "X-Ray Specs! See Thru Clothing!" blares the copy, which is illustrated with a cartoon of a drooling geek wearing the amazing toy goggles and leering at a shapely woman.

Now, any kid with half a brain knew that X-Ray Specs were a novelty gag that didn't really work. But time marches on and technology makes the impossible possible. Stand by, air travelers, because the Homeland Security Department is preparing to install and test high-tech machines at airport checkpoints that will, as the comic-book ads promised, "See Thru Clothing!"

Get ready for electronic portals known as backscatters, expected to be tested at a handful of airports this year, that use X-ray imaging technology to allow a screener to scan a body. And yes, the body image is detailed. Let's not be coy here, ladies and gentlemen:

"Well, you'll see basically everything," said Bill Scannell, a privacy advocate and technology consultant. "It shows nipples. It shows the clear outline of genitals."

The Homeland Security Department's justification for the electronic strip searches has a certain logic. In field test after field test, it found that federal airport screeners using metal-detecting magnetometers did a miserable job identifying weapons concealed in carry-on bags or on the bodies of undercover agents.

Do not buy property at Keystone Resort

About 5 years ago, my parents invested in a Ski property at Keystone Resort in the Ski Tip Ranch Neighborhood. Keystone promised they would build a new Ski Lift for the residents in that area and promised Ski in, ski out ability. Instead of protecting the interests of the homeowners there, Keystone, owned by Vail corporation keeps building and building and saturating the small local market. In the deed to the property, there are also numerous favorable clauses for the resort - they get a cut on each sale. When the property was under the management of the resort, there was hardly any occupancy except for over the major holidays. Generally, a good rule of thumb is - dont buy property where you are relying on the builder to control your interests, because they make more money on building and selling more property than they do protecting the interests of current owners. Dont buy in a place where there is excess land - such as around many ski areas. It may be hard to get to, but it isnt hard to build more properties if the demand is there. Do not buy timeshares (i.e. Westgate resorts which is in the ground floor of my office building and in the nearby mall just smells like a scam). But I digress... the important thing here is do not trust Vail corporation to protect your interests as a home owner... do not buy within a ski resort.

Wired: Eat Fat to Lose Fat

I always knew this but no one ever listened to me - if it is low fat, it makes you fat!!!! It sounds ridiculous, and part of it is the additional sugar that is put in. This is a different take on my theory, but hey, I will take it.

Diets too low in fat may be responsible for stubborn bulges on bellies, thighs and butts, according to a new study.

Dieters trying slim down by following extremely low-fat diets may be causing the exact opposite results, according to new research from the University of Washington at St. Louis. Eating at least small amounts of dietary fats, such as fish oils, might be a better way to kick-start fat-burning, say researchers.

Perry: Homes you shouldnt buy?

I am currently looking for an apartment close to downtown Houston and I stumbled upon this article in the Houston Press about the poor quality of Perry Homes. The article has a very negative slant about how Perry & other suburban developers are bringing their crap into the city. I have to say, that from a price point of view, these townhomes and new blocks of apartments look appealing, but this article just reassures me that as good a price as they may seem, they will have problems and older is better.

The Dead Zone
Houston buries its Inner Loop past under bright new shiny Perry Homes town houses
BY JOSH HARKINSON
feedback@houstonpress.com

He called them "the little houses." They were the shotgun shacks and decomposing Victorians, the flophouses where the panhandlers crashed and the drug dealers weighed rock. Along the crabgrass yards of the Fourth Ward slum, they bred the kind of crime and poverty unheard of in Rich Agnew's Clear Lake subdivision. Yet walking the narrow streets with a realtor, Agnew could hardly see them.

Instead, he saw uniform brick facades reminiscent of new row houses in old London. Sidewalks striated to resemble cobblestones led him past young shrubs planted with cookie-cutter precision. The realtor ushered Agnew through the door of a new model town house, one among hundreds sporting vanity rooms, granite countertops and shiny wood floors.

An uppermost window gave Agnew and his wife a glimpse of the downtown skyline. The middle-aged couple imagined an exciting life of freedom from their commute, lawn mower and energy bills. But they wanted this lifestyle without the chaos of inner Houston's urban hodgepodge; they feared losing the programmed, suburban feel of the Perry Homes neighborhood where they had raised kids.

And that's why Sutton Square, one of Perry's new urban versions of the suburbs, was almost perfect.

Vacation in Thailand

Hello again, and welcome to my interesting vacation. This week is filled with more exciting news. This time, it is about Thailand, coming to you live from Australia! I am on my third day in Oz, and I am having a great time. The Holland vs. Portugal match is on tonight and we have to get up at 4:00 am if we want to watch it. We will.

The pictures are here by the way.

So, about Thailand. I spent all of my time in Bangkok staying with my friend Bob from RPI. He has a car there and drove me around everywhere. I saw the major touristy sights, a few of the Wots (temples) and the Royal Palace. I had a big night out one night and I did some shopping at the night markets there. I have to say though, I like a lot about Thailand, I have a few things that were sour milk to me. I made a list below:

Likes Dislikes
  • Food - I had some great seafood as well as noodle soup dishes. Eating out is really inexpensive however the 'hawker stall' style places are not as high quality as Singapore.
  • People - Bob's family as well as his two close friends, Kiang and Keng were tremendously hospitable. I hardly was able to pay for anything there because Bob would always talk to them in Thai and I wasnt able to do anything to pay!
  • Prices - Everything is sooooooooo inexpensive! Anything that needs local labor, i.e. Golf caddying, Massage... etc.. is all really inexpensive. The more expensive places are on par with similar places in the states but the price is low. Great value for money.
  • People - I found something very uncomfortable about the way sex is thought of in Thai society. A documentary on the plane talks about anything more than holding hands being offensive, yet there are a lot of hookers on the sides of the roads and lots of people trying to get you in to see the sex shows all the time. I found it to be a little trashy in some ways.
    • Transvestites! - There are way too many cross-dressers and really feminine guys! Im not sure why, culturally there are a lot of 'lady-boys' or whatever the term is but it seemed excessive
  • Heat - I know I am going to regret thinking this, but it was really hot and humid in Thailand! Playing golf required a lot of drinking water and a lot of sweating

I really enjoyed my time in Thailand, and I would love to go back. I hear that in the beach resort areas down south, the food is a little different (better) and people are different too. Every big city really will end up being the same. I saw McDonalds in a lot of places, and I got a great shirt there that has the logo and says 'McShit'. Doing it again, I would definitely get out of Bangkok. There is a lot to see there if u are interested in Temples and Night markets, and I had a nice time when we did that stuff, but I would definitely like to get out of Bangkok into the countryside more. Im sure you are all excited for my updates on Australia. It has been great so far. I will write towards the end.

Spain

Im doing my entry for Spain from Bangkok since I didnt really get a chance in my 6 hours back in London. So far, I havent been to somewhere I didnt like. I had a great time in Marbella with Duncan. We spent a lot of time in Puerto Banus at the bars down there. Duncan is working for a promotions company called Sintillate doing a lot of "PR"ing (I guess that stands for public relations) with the basic goal of trying to create awareness of the various events Sintillate is putting on. I flew over there on Easyjet which was pretty reasonable and compares with Southwest, however I think the planes are newer. The plane I had back was only seven weeks old. You can really tell based on cabin noise that Airbus has an edge over Boeing. The plane was pretty quiet, and I was right next to the engine! So as for my trip to Spain, we hung out a lot at Lineker's which belongs to the brother of Gary Lineker (the famous british soccer player). One night we went to Pangia where David Schwimmer and his gang were (i only saw them the next day at a beach party) and another night we went to Dreamers. The night we were at Dreamers, Teddy Sheringham (another british soccer player) got turned away because he had trainers/sneakers on. I guess in Spain, they dont know any of the British celebs. Unfortunately, while I was there I didnt take many pictures when we were out so all I really have to show is a few shots of Duncan's place.

I got burnt the first day I was there and right now I feel like a snake shedding its skin. I met some nice people there, however, I think Puerto Banus is a really pretentious place. There were a lot of "beautiful people" walking around and all of the designer stuff got a little on my nerves. I had a great time hanging out with Duncan and I know that all the free drinks I was fed didnt hurt my enjoyment there. Thailand is great so far. It is my second day and I am loving it. Asia is awesome. I ate dinner last night for $1.50. Even the expensive restaurants are cheaper relative to europe and the states. Thailand is well worth the 10 hour trip from London. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Turkey

The verdict is in, and Turkey rocks. I had a fantastic time there and you can definitely see that from the Photos . We spent one night in Istanbul and were treated by some customers of my Dad to a fantastic dinner. I experienced an insane taxi driver who was overtaking on blind corners and proclaimed 'If everyone in Istanbul drove like me, there would be no traffic'. Most likely because everyone would be in hospital recovering from accidents. Outside of Istanbul, taxi drivers are a little more relaxed. We flew to Dalaman the next day which is South East of Izmir which is the home of the first internet celebrity, Mahir Cagri whom some out there may remember.

We boarded the boat about 20 minutes drive away in Gocek and then sailed around the Gulf of Fethiye for most of the week. A lot of the islands we stopped at had ruins of Greek villages left over from when Turkey enforced their borders more strictly after world war one. A lot of the islands are not densely inhabited with usually a restaurant in most of the major bays. We stopped in Fethiye and took a trip to see the ruins of the cities of Xanthos, Pinara and Tlos. Many of the old ruins were inhabited first by the Lycians, then the Romans, and then by the Byzantines. Tlos was also used as an Ottoman stronghold.

Some of the highlights of my trip were: Getting a leather coat custom tailored (yes, they made it from scratch) for me in about 6 hours using incredible leather for about 1/4th of the cost of an inferior quality, mass produced one from Banana Republic; Being astounded when we stopped at a farm to get some fresh vegetables and they refused to take any money for the bagfull of tomatoes and cucumber we had picked. The people's kindness towards strangers, to just give away something where we were completely willing to pay was tremendously kind; Lastly, buying a kilim was extremely exciting. I bought a small carpet for my living room which is a hand done, in two pieces, by two people on small looms and then stitched together. I will have a picture up there eventually.

I am now looking forward to going to Spain in a couple of days! More pictures in a couple of weeks!

Analysis and expansion of the article by Albert Bartlett: “The World’s Worst Population Problem — (Is There a Population Problem?):”

A 3% to 3.5% growth rate is not only an achievable national objective: it is an economic and social necessity.

[1]

The unwavering desire for growth of GDP (Gross Domestic Product) in developed nations is a disturbing trend that is as much a characteristic of humans as the desire to procreate. Both of these desires are in fact related. The human desire to procreate helps to maintain the ability to increase the GDP. It is a necessary characteristic for survival that a species must replace those who die. Unfortunately, our birth rate as a species is in excess of our mortality rate. With more people needing to be supported, our production of goods must be increased, and thus growth in GDP is experienced. If uncontrolled, population and GDP growth will fuel each other and expedite the self-destruction of the human race. The inability of the world to provide the amount of food and resources needed to maintain current levels of growth will lead to the decline of quality of life for the masses, large social unrest, and most likely the devolution of the human race.

Consumption of goods in western countries, and primarily the United States is far greater than the rest of the world. This is what constitutes overpopulation, not population density. The Netherlands has a population density of 1,031 people per square mile. "The Netherlands can support 1,031 people per square mile only because the rest of the world does not". [2] It is essential to understand that many of the worlds developed nations use developing nations in order to get necessary goods that it is not as profitable for them to produce. This decision is made based on the opportunity cost. For example, the techniques in the Netherlands for making clogs may be far in excess of their ability to grow mangos. In another nation such as the Philippines, they can produce mangos of a greater overall value than the clogs they could produce in a given time, and thus it would be advantageous for both countries to trade and for the Philippines to satisfy their clog demand by buying them from the Netherlands and to provide mangos to satisfy the Netherlands demand. Companies such as the Gap Corporation are able to make low cost, high quality clothes by setting up factories in developing nations. This helps to increase the standard of living in the developing nations but in doing so, the cost of doing business in that nation will slowly increase. With more income per capita in the country, the consumption per individual will increase. This will decrease the amount available for the rest of the world, and it will get to a point where investment in developing nations will allow them to catch up to developed nations and the consumption will increase accordingly also. The total worldwide production will be less than the demand for those products. In the case of food, if there is not enough food to go around, people will die, and negative growth will occur.

The earth has defenses against human growth. Natural disasters, disease, war, global warming, depletion of non-renewable resources are all contributing factors to the stabilization of population and subsequently the stabilization of GDP growth. The desire to increase population also seems to be directly related to the wealth of individuals. Wealth lessens the desire to reproduce. The population of the United States is estimated to double in 115 years, whereas the overall world population will double in 53 years [3] . The GNP (Gross National Product) per capita of the United States is $29,240. The world GNP per capita is $6,300. The United States is looked upon as a model of success. The standard of living in the United States is deemed by many to be the highest in the world. It is the land of opportunity, but that opportunity creates a tremendous strain on our environment.

In the United States, there are 19,674 kg of carbon emissions per capita annually, almost 5 times the World average of 4,157 kg annually. The U.S. has 5% of the world's population, but it consumes 20 million barrels of oil daily, or 26% of the world's total. [4] The more the population of the U.S. grows, the more oil it will consume. This is the same for any non-renewable resource, though oil is the one of immediate concern because of our great dependence on it and the proximity at which some fear it will run out.

The energy that fuels our production processes will also decrease our ability to maintain growth in GDP. Alternatives need to be found in order for the factories to keep working, for the lights to stay on, for our cars to keep running. All of our primary energy sources are non-renewable and our supply of them is decreasing at a faster rate as the world population increases.

Advances in medicine, and technology act in direct opposition to Darwin's theory of survival of the fittest. With air-conditioning, old people are less likely to die in the heat of the summer, and prescription drugs can keep them alive longer when they are sick. We are better able to survive the elements and the natures defenses against us. Humans are constantly trying to fight against death and are reluctant to see death as a good thing, but it is. A death rate equal to the rate of birth minus infant mortality is the most desirable current situation for humans. We are accelerating towards a energy dichotomy which we have yet to solve. If we have no idea of how we are going to save our current population when the oil runs out, how can we possibly suggest we would be able to support a population that will most likely be more than double the current population?

What solutions can we possibly have for this dilemma? From a purely economic standpoint, one way to address both the concern of curbing population growth as well as to maintain increases in GDP is by having a world war. During times of war, economies boom and many people are killed. This of course has ethical implications, such as who would or could make the decision to go to war for these purposes. It is most likely that no one will have to. There are many situations that exist where there is instability in clusters of countries. Population increase only intensifies the tension. For example, Israel and Palestine have been disputing land that provides neither state adequate space in the long term when taking population growth into account. They have been able to help curb population increases by killing each other. In recent months, other countries in the Middle East have become concerned with Israel's incursions into Palestine. This situation has the potential to provoke Israel to use its nuclear weapons in "defense". This would not necessarily be a bad thing in the long run. If the people in the dispute were wiped out, then reason for the dispute, overpopulation, would no longer occur. Of course the ethical and environmental implications of this tactic are far greater than the perceived advantages.

There are many things that affect the decision for supporting increased growth in GDP, and too many things to consider accounting for in a short paper. Long term survival of the human race should be one of the major considerations when making decisions but unfortunately this is subordinate to growth. The desire for growth is "like buying a ticket on the Titanic. You can be smart and go first class, or you can be dumb and go steerage. In both cases, the result is the same. But given the choice, most people would go first class". [5] This is a serious issue that most people choose to ignore. People are only focused on achieving a better standard of living for themselves and increasing their personal wealth. Those who try to educate about the problem are cast aside because of the implications of what they are saying. It is time that the politicians of the world listened to Albert Bartlett and the other economist/philosophers that share the same grim outlook. This problem is real and ignoring it will not save us from it.
