Stop Silverleaf Resorts - call Mark Guenther
Monday, July 2nd, 2007I get a lot of people on here who have problems dealing with Silverleaf Resorts, a timeshare company that does a lot of direct marketing. I would encourage unhappy customers to band together and organize. Mark Guenther posted a comment on a previous post.
My name is Mark Guenther and I have been hounded by this company for the last year. I live in the atlanta area and I have been getting these calls about cars and money. I did some research and I have traced what I think is back to chicago. The man I usually get is Bill Carson at 773 465 5370. The reason I am writing is if anyone has recieved one of these blue cards or any address to meet a representitive please email me or call me at 404 579 8189 this is my office line. I would like to put a stop to this. I am not a lawyer but I have the time and the energy to do something
Check out my previous articles about silverleaf: article 1, article 2
Or read about Westgate Resorts, a slightly better behaved version.
Good luck! If you want me to set up a more organized effort / forum, let me know!

He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven
Monday, January 1st, 2007From Ryan Greenblatt:
HAD I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with the golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams beneath your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams…

It’s a wonderful life is commie propaganda
Monday, December 25th, 2006Boing Boing has an article about It’s a Wonderful Life being classified as commie propaganda in 1947 by the FBI. Hilarious, but probably not at the time… I wonder what we will look back on in 60 years and say was ridiculous about 2006?
$10 Domain Registration - Google Apps excels
Friday, December 15th, 2006I use google apps for all my domains. Google’s email and calendaring are superior systems to any other free hosted systems out there for having domain email, calendaring, chat. Now, google has made it even easier by offering $10 domain registration. This makes it simple to register a domain and get up and running with Google’s email. Ideally, you’ll want to use a host for your website - their current solution is a little weak, but for the most part, its a great price and minimal effort. Nice one google!

How to beat heat stroke & heat exhaustion.
Monday, August 21st, 2006Playing sports in the Texas summer is brutal. Growing up in Singapore, I used to get heat stroke / exhaustion playing soccer in the summer. I would come home with a headache, often vomit, and require excessive amounts of sleep. It didnt seem to matter if I had enough fluid beforehand, during and after the game, I would still sometimes feel sick!
I think I have found the solution:
Information online tells you to drink water, water, water and maybe gatorade if you like. Well, I am suggesting trying an electrolyte formula - such as the following from Clif. This is probably going to do more for you than the high fructose full gatorade crapola. I’ve purchased some and will be trying it on myself in the upcoming games to see how I fare. I will hydrate myself with this before the game, have a water bottle full during the game and use it after aswell. I’ll keep you updated on how well it works!
Update: The stuff works! I usually drink two pint glasses before the game and then a cooler full during the game and then a pint glass when I get home. I still feel tired - dont get me wrong, but I dont get the immobilizing headaches and vomiting like I used to!
Being sick sucks
Thursday, August 10th, 2006Im not sure where or who I got it from. I think I have been overdoing it with socializing and working out. Working out, partying and getting 4 hours of sleep eventually runs you down and allows sickness to move in. Im taking it easy tonight. In fact, i took several naps in the conference room at work today, got some soup for dinner and am already in bed typing this. Im about to cough up a lung. I got this tylenol cough syrup that has acetaminofen (sp?) in it and that seems to help a little.
There’s much more soccer to watch and play on the weekend so I want to be in good spirits for that! Cheers to relaxing for a few days!
Barcelona vs. Club America - is Ronaldinho really that good?
Thursday, August 10th, 2006I attended the awesome double header between Houston Dynamo and LA Galaxy and then FC Barcelona and Club America. My Dynamo season tix got some great seats in section 340 of Reliant Stadium looking down on the ants running around chasing the ball. It was a completely different experience than watching them at Robertson Stadium at U of H. The game was fantastic. Club America scored a goal around the 4th minute and was really taking it to Barcelona. They were putting together some great passes, maintaining possession and looking very dangerous in front of goal. In the 75th minute, we left because I was feeling kinda sick and didnt want to get stuck in traffic. BIG MISTAKE! From 4 - 1 down, Barca came back and scored 3 goals to equalize! I heard that Ronaldinho raised his game and showed some amazing skill, drawing a penalty and scoring a goal in the process. Did you find me yet?
What a shame we left early!
Stocking your home bar.
Thursday, July 27th, 2006I went to Spec’s Liquor in Midtown today to stock my home bar. I asked the guy there to help me with the basics to help make sure I had everything I needed for when people come over. Here’s my list:
Spirits
- Grey Goose (Expensive Vodka)
- Smirnoff Red (Cheap Vodka)
- Shustoff (Unique Ukrainian Vodka)
- Bombay Sapphire (Expensive Gin)
- Bacardi Gold (Dark Rum)
- Bacardi (Light Rum)
- Malibu (Chicks Rum)
- Makers Mark (Nice Bourbon)
- Gentleman Jack (Nice bourbon)
- Antigua Cruz (Unique Tequila)
- Vermouth (For martinis!)
- Agavero (Unique tequila Liqueur)
- Kahlua (Liqueur)
- Godiva Liqueur (For chocolate Martinis)
- Triple Sec (For cosmos)
Beer
Unless you are a big beer drinker (I am not), then just get a few basics.
- Amstel Light
- Heineken
- Domestic (Miller light, coors light, bud light) - they all taste like water
- Corona
- Negro Modelo
Mixers
- Red Bull
- Coke
- Diet Coke
- 7up
- Tonic Water
- Soda Water
- Cranberry Juice
Tools
- Cocktail Shaker
- Bar towels
- Blender
- Muddler / Pestle (for crushing up stuff in a glass)
That’s pretty much your basics covered. Mix and match what I am suggesting, and make sure to have a signature drink! Mine is the chocolate martini Mojito!

Music Recommendation - Death Cab for Cutie - Plans
Wednesday, July 26th, 2006I usually listen to music based on mood. Death Cab for Cutie and ‘The Postal Service’, I can listen to any time. I can drive to it, I can sleep to it, I can sing to it. I just love it. It’s music you can get lost in and escape the reality of a boring day at work or a disturbing thought. It also helps me reflect on my day, feel relaxed and optimistic.
Tracks to look out for: Soul Meets Body, I will follow you into the dark, Crooked Teeth.
I get shivers every time I listen to each of those tracks.
Your bachelor pad: How to keep women staying longer
Sunday, July 23rd, 2006So you’re a geek & lets say when you go on a camping trip, or to a lan party, there are certain things that are must haves when you go! Well, this is a list of must haves to keep the women staying longer when you successfully get them to come over.
The Living Room
- Comfy sofa that is good for snuggling and watching a movie (blanket is good too!)
- DVDs that girls want to watch (go look at myspace profiles). They dont necessarily have to be ones you dont want to watch
- Nice artwork on the wall. You want to show you have taste!
- Decent T.V. and Stereo. Girls dont find it sexy to watch movies on your laptop.
- Interesting coffee table books - travel, architecture, art, something you are interested in
Refreshments
A woman isnt going to stay very long if she is parched or hungry. They, unlike guys cant live on beer and cereal alone. Have the following things available:
- Diet Coke, San Pellegrino (sparkling water), Fruit Juice
- Chocolate (good stuff), Mixed nuts & other snacks, Hersheys Syrup (for chocolate martinis and a whole lot more), Fresh fruit
- Champagne (have both cheap and good depending on the woman), Red Wine, White Wine, Good Vodka (Belvedere, Grey goose), Godiva Liqueur (for chocolate martinis)
The Bathroom
Everyone has to go to the bathroom eventually. Make sure yours is clean! If you pass that test, make sure there it has the following things to keep her smelling and feeling clean:
- Nice hand soap is a must. You may not wash your hands after going to the bathroom, but have some soap so she can
- Hand Lotion (smaller nice ones from l’occitane en provence will go over really well)
- Nice towels (both hand and bath towels - one for you and one for her)
- Mints, gum (this way if she has bad breath, she can be discreet about fixing it.
The Bedroom
If you’ve played your cards right and gotten this far. Here is what I would recommend
- Stereo for playing “mood music”. Get an iPod Hi-fi and have a playlist set up with your favorite sexual songs. Dont use your laptop, or play things through your xbox. Keep it simple so you can focus on her, and not the technology
- Candles - to set the mood and allow you to see if she prefers to turn off the lights
- Massage oil / bar - for a little fun
- Condoms - discretely within reaching distance from your bed (in case you get lucky)
This is just a simple list to get you started. Add some personal touches to each of these areas to let the woman know how unique and interesting you are. You want your place to be somewhere she is comfortable and where she feels like she gets insight into you.
Good Luck!
Windows Vista Beta 2 5384 available for Public Download
Wednesday, June 7th, 2006Get your copy here! Hot of the press! Microsoft has released a public beta of Windows Vista Beta 2. They are using a download manager (somewhat like bittorrent) from Akamai that frankly sucks. It keeps stalling and saying it has lost the connection. I wish there was a torrent up there of this file since that is a much better way to download than DD or Akamai’s crappy download manager. What a joke.
