The future of web processing is buzzword.

BuzzwordMy friend Pach wrote his final papers (something like 2000 pages in all) for his masters degree in Philosophy in Google Docs. It has everything academics need for papers. It even has some features like versioning and backup that are difficult or non-existent on off-line word processors (Microsoft Word). The big drawback with Google Docs and similar software is layout - quite simply making it look the way you want it to. I tried out some software that may solve that problem. (more…)

Some server issues - and progress fixing them

SlicehostI have this site running on a Slicehost VPS. I have previously raved about Slicehost. About a week ago I started to notice the site going down. To know when that happens, I use a free service called Montastic. Montastic will alert me by email if my site (or up to 9 others) go down. This is great when you have to maintain multiple sites across multiple servers (or if you want to know if someone else dropped the ball!). (more…)

Don’t forget the elifelist bike trip across the country

Friday, July 6th, 2007

Lee and BrentI mentioned a few days ago that my friend Lee and his business partner Brent are biking across the country. Well, they’re underway! They’re on their fifth day of about 40. Definitely check out the elifelist bike trip blog and show Lee and Brent your support.

They’re trying to raise money for the Lance Armstrong foundation. They need your moral and fiscal support!

Should you rely on others?

Zookoda Goes DownIn general, it’s much better to rely on other people for anything outside of your core competency. This goes for your business and your life. Upon a recommendation from Vishen at Mind Valley, I was relying on Zookoda for this site’s email list. Rather than build and maintain the software myself, I relied on their skilled programmers and support staff to do it for me.  (more…)

Stop Silverleaf Resorts - call Mark Guenther

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

I get a lot of people on here who have problems dealing with Silverleaf Resorts, a timeshare company that does a lot of direct marketing. I would encourage unhappy customers to band together and organize. Mark Guenther posted a comment on a previous post.

My name is Mark Guenther and I have been hounded by this company for the last year. I live in the atlanta area and I have been getting these calls about cars and money. I did some research and I have traced what I think is back to chicago. The man I usually get is Bill Carson at 773 465 5370. The reason I am writing is if anyone has recieved one of these blue cards or any address to meet a representitive please email me or call me at 404 579 8189 this is my office line. I would like to put a stop to this. I am not a lawyer but I have the time and the energy to do something

Check out my previous articles about silverleaf: article 1, article 2
Or read about Westgate Resorts, a slightly better behaved version.

Good luck! If you want me to set up a more organized effort / forum, let me know!
