Silverleaf Resorts isnt all that bad?

Well, according to one of its employees, it isnt. Since we have an obligation to be fair and balanced (we dont), I thought I would post the comment received from an irate silverleaf employee on another post on this site about the numerous "idiots" whom they solicit for timeshares. Please note, this comment has been transcribed verbatim. I apologize for the author yelling in caps:

JUST TO LET YOU KIDS KNOW WE ARE REGISTERED WITH THE “BBB….NO IT DOES NOT SAY ON THE LETTER OR POSTCARD YOU RECEIVE IN THE MAIL THAT THERE ARE CERTAIN QUALIFICATIONS YOU HAVE TO MEET THATS WHY BEFORE YOU DRIVE OUT THERE THESE PEOPLE CALLED “VACATION COORDINATORS AS YOU PEOPLE CALL THEM (THE EMPLOYEES AT SILVERLEAF CALL THEM VERIFIERS) GET ON THE PHONE AND QUALIFY YOU BROKE ASS PEOPLE BEFORE YOU WASTE YOUR TIME DRIVING SOMEWHERE YOU WOULDNT EVEN BELONG IN THE FIRST PLACE. THE ONLY GOD FORSAKEN REASON WHY PEOPLE CALL THIS A “SCAM IS SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY ARE LIARS THEMSELVES. THE ONE AND THE ONLY REASON ANYONE WOULD BE TURNED DOWN AT THE RESORT IS BECAUSE THEY SIMPLY DO NOT QUALIFY FOR THE PROMOTION. DO YOU IDIOTS EVEN KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE SAY “NOW PLEASE BE AWARE YOU WILL BE ASKED TO PRESENT 2 FORMS OF I.D. , ONE BEING A DRIVERS LICENSE AND 2 BEING A MAJOR CREDIT CARD, MARRIED COUPLES MUST TOUR TOGETHER (EVEN IF YOU ARE LEGALLY SEPERATED THAT DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE LEGALLY DIVORCED AND STILL MARRIED COUPLES TOUR TOGETHER GENIOUS) AND DEPENDING ON WHAT STATE YOU LIVE IN AND WHETHER YOU ARE SINGLE OR MARRIED THE INCOME REQUIREMENTS RANGE FROM TX- MARRIED 40K …SINGLE 45K
GEORGIA-MARRIED-45K SINGLE 50K…IL & NY/MA-MARRIED-50K SINGLE 55K….YOU GO THROUGHT 3-4 PEOPLE WHO SAY THAT SAME SHIT BEFORE YOU EVEN GO OUT TO THE RESORT SO MAYBE SOME OF YOU SHOULD OPEN YOUR EARS DOUCHE BAGS…SO ANYONE THAT WRITES A COMMENT BASHING THE “AWARDS VERIFICATION CENTER WHICH YOU PEOPLE REALLY DONT EVEN KNOW WHERE THE 2ND CALL CENTER IS REALLY LOCATED CAN GO SCREW YOURSELF…I HAVE WORKED HERE FOR OVER A YEAR NOW THE COMPANY HAS BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR ALMOST 30 AT THAT. NOW ANSWER ME THIS…IF WE ARE REGISTERED WITH THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU AND HAVE BEEN IN BUSINESS THIS LONG AND ARE ALSO STILL OWNING OPERATING AND ALSO OPENING RESORTS ALL AROUND THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA DO YOU REALLY THINK WE ARE LOSING OUT ON THE 100 PEOPLE ON THIS PAGE WHO SAY “OH I DONT GIVE A SHIT BUT YET GAVE SHIT ENOUGH TO WRITE COMMENTS ABOUT HOW ANGRY THEY WERE? UHH NO! YOU PEOPLE ARE IGNORANT FOR EVEN THINKING YOU COULD PUT SUSAN MURRAY BEHIND BARS…DO YOU PEOPLE EVEN KNOW WHO SHE IS? NO. WHEN YOU CALL THE AWARDS VERIFICATION CENTER AND ASK FOR SANDRA OR KIM OR TRAVIS THOMAS DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHO THEY ARE? NO. BECAUSE YOU PEOPLE ARE ALL MORONS FOR NOT SPENDING AN HOUR OF YOUR WORTHLESS LIFE GETTING AT THE LEAST A VACATION FOR 2 PEOPLE PAID FOR. WHAT KIND OF MORON DOES THAT? YOU PEOPLE ARE RIGHT WHEN YOU SAY OH NOTHING IS FREE IN LIFE. WELL NO SH*T NEITHER IS YOUR TIME THATS WHY TO THANK YOU FOR COMING AND SPENDING 90 MINUTES OF YOUR USELESS NON-PRODUCTIVE POOR LIVES OUT HERE WE GIVE YOU 2 PRIZES FOR NOTHING…YOU PEOPLE ARE IDIOTIC USELESS AND DUH EVERY D*MN BUSINESS IN THE WHOLE F***ING COUNTRY HAS BAD THINGS WRITTEN ABOUT THEM SOMEWHERE BUT HOW LONG DO SCAMS REALLY LAST? 30 YEARS…UHHH COMMON SENSE PEOPLE NO…ESPECIALLY SINCE EVERY COUPLE MONTHS OUR LAWYERS AND JUDGES GO OVER THE SCRIPTS WE READ AND SAY “OH YES THATS PERFECTLY LEGAL ARE YOU SERIOUSLY THINKING YOU PEOPLE WHO DONT HAVE A MIND OF YOU OWN BELIEVING THESE CLOSED MINDEDOH I DONT HAVE TIME FOR ANYTHING EXCEPT MY GAY MARRAIGE PEOPLE AND WHAT THEY SAY TO KEEP YOU FROM SEEING A GORGEOUS RESORT AND RECEIVING 2 PRIZES FOR NOTHING????? I WENT OUT TO THE PINEY SHORES RESORT WHICH IS LOCATED OFF 45 ABOUT 45 MINUTES TO AN HOUR NORTH OF HOUSTON…GOT BOTH MY PRIZES AND LEFT HAPPY…I HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED MY VACATION PACKAGE AND WENT ON THE TRIP TO VEGAS…OH WAIT YOU KNOW WHY I ACTUALLY RECEIVED MINE? FIRST OF ALL I SET THE APPOINTMENT AND ACTUALLY SHOWED AND DIDNT LIE LIKE A FILTHY RAT SECONDLY I DIDNT F***ING LIE TO 3-4 DIFFERENT PEOPLE SAYING OH YES I MEET ALL OF THOSE QUALIFICATIONS AND THEN GO TO THE RESORT LIKE A MORON AND CHANGE MY MIND ALL OF A SUDDEN AND SAY “OH WELL I GUESS I DONT MAKE 40K A YEAR LIKE I SAID 4 DAYS AGO MORONS YOU PEOPLE ARE WORTH ABSOLUTELY NOTHING AND YOU MEAN NOTHING TO THE IMPORTANT PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD. GOD HATES YOU AND YOU SHOULD PROBABLY GO PLAY IN TRAFFIC
THANKS FOR YOUR TIME

we went to galveston for our time share intro thing. we were promised 2 vouchers for a cruise leaving from either galveston or florida, 5 days 4 nights. we were told it was 179 a person plus port fees. still cheaper if i booked it myself. we were also give two 40 dollar american express "debit" cards to use anywhere, except for gas. we were also promised and given! 3 vouchers for a 3 days 2 night stay at several of these other locations. *we'll probably go to durango colorado* and we were promised the chance to win an expensive car, or i could take the 49,000 dollars. it was a scratch off ticket, I had to scratch off 5 gold coins from a card that had 15? squares on it. I didn't get 5 coins so i got anothe voucher for free rooms in jamaca? i'll never use that.
but the guy was informative. we laid out all the details, and it was a nice offer.
obviously I am responsible for travel there and back, and that's just as obvious as i am responsible for all entertainment outside of the resort. that's a given.
we got to the final price and it was a nice price for all it offered, and we declined, a manager came over and asked why is this not what you want? we said we didn't earn 18,000 in a day i wasn't going to spend it in a day. then we ended up chatting like old folks just chit chatting about family, nothing to do with the resort or the offer. just nice people. we declined, and another lady came over and offered us some 100 dollars a month and in 18 months or something.. i don't know we weren't interested. so she walked us over and we got our prizes. we were there 2 hours. and a lot of that was us talking and asking questions. it wasn't bad.
i don't know if the vouchers are a scam or not, even if they are, i got 80 bucks !! and i have a bunch of info, so when the time is right, i'll be prepared to purchase. now that i know how this works. i serisouly have NO complaines.
  • Mandy
Wow!! You are an idiot!! Maybe you guys should be a little more open and honest about what you guys really want and more people would learn to trust you. The fast talk and small print only indicates a discrepancy on your part. Obviously, this resort hires real winners given by your statement. Also judging by the incompetent crack heads that came up to us in the mall, your entire corporation is a joke. I feel sorry for you and eventually your going to piss enough people off and you guys are going to be in deep legal issues. Good luck finding another job idiot!
P.S. Use the dictionary if I used to many big words for you moron!

Loyal Silver leaf Resort Member;I'm coming to Lee MA within two weeks, and although I was coming with an open mind towards maybe buying the package that you use every other year,I already bought and paid for the sampler package, after reading your insulting tirade towards many good people who came to Lee and maybe got overwhelmed by all that was going on there,I wish to tell you that if you worked for me,and said what you said about customers,I would personally escort you out the door, and tell you never to come back. The customer is always right, and maybe from what was said about Silver Leaf you might want to ask what you are doing wrong.I've owned timeshare since 1982,and trade every year, but never once did anyone from RCI,Resort Condominiums International, ever talk about anyone like you just did,and thats probably the reason that you didn't sign your name YOU COWARD.

    Sincerely

    Richard Williams

um, ok.... thanks for sharing. To clarify, I don't even work, and my hubby makes more than double that amount and we did get some sorry ass coupons for gas that you have to mail in with 3 receipts 30 days apart and jump thru another hoop or something I failed to follow thru so my sorry ass didn't get the gas reimbursment. We did, however end up going to Vegas after we mailed in 3 dates, 30 days apart and paid a traveling fee which was around 100 bucks. We flew in on Southwest which was nice enough, but then the accomodations, maybe a 0 or 1 star place, were well off the strip and patroned by local gamblers who appeared to be very dirty and drunk. We rented a room right on the strip for less than we would have paid in cab fees going to the strip and back and no it was not walking distance at all. I doubt you silverleaf employees would stay in a dump like that and I would hope for you to land a more respectable job some day. You deserve it because you are loyal.

ARE YOU SERIOUS !!! My husband and I just got back last night from from one of your 90 minute "tours", which turned out to be 2 hours, and we were interested at first, BUT after about 45minutes of this guy ballooning himself up to be "THE BEST" we asked how much? he said he had to go thru his "thing" which turned out to be dragged out to tell us the same thing over and over. FINALLY the price!!! WOW!!! this is supposed to be a steal at 15,500 for the rest of our lives...???? a little confused seeing how it's 65$ a month for maintiance, then $194.00 exchanging fee. ok add it up "IDIOTS" as you would call us morons. so far we are at $974.00..... then of course we are exchanging so we need AIRFARE... the guy was not clear on what kind of DEAL we would get for airfare??? uhmmm??? well 2% or maybe 50%. doesn't matter really when you have a family of 5 that you have to buy for.. so let's say we got a great deal $99.00 round trip per person. ok so that is for us another $500. add it up "IDIOTS"???? $1474.00 for one week a year. I go to my parents in florida FOR LESS!!!! then we still have our mortgage to pay off of $15,500, or what ever agreed upon price. OK, so your not a "SCAM" but I can certainly say that your "THIEVES"...!!!!!! oh and what quailfies you to work there??? did you only have to pass the third grade? The employee who wrote this certainly needs some more schooling and the people we met in the berkshires, ma needed some "BETTER GROOMING". they were slobs, dressed nice, but dirty fingernails and shirts untucked and some even smelled aweful!! did I recieve GIFTS? yes we did and it's the LEAST you can do for what we went thru with this guy. I actually was getting scared towards the end when we were letting him know the price is to high for us. he started throwing his papers around and talking louder and getting visibly upset! this is HIGH, VERY HIGH, pressure sales, and turned us off completely! and this was supposedly your TOP sales guy!!! ha ha!! he is a joke. that's the way he get's??? we asked early on, bottom line price, so we wouldn't waste his time or ours. oh but no we had to listen to him talk all your places and other places you can go, UP!!! so "MORONS" before you insult the average everyday person out there, look in the mirror!!! whom ever wrote the employee letter should print it out and have it corrected by an english teacher!!!! all in all thanks for your time and a waste of mine!!!!

I too am an unfortunate Silverleaf owner. I hope that anyone who is considering going to a Silverleaf resort will not or they will be confronted with a high pressure sales and misleading ifnormation. This timeshare is not worth a wooden nickel. Just look on EBAY and see that paid for units are bringing practically nothing. If you took the bait as I did, please file a complaint with the BBB, State Attorney General, and the Federal Trade Commission to wake these groups up to their responsibilities. Then encourage everyone you know to avoid these snakes.
  • Karate Dork
i think the problem is your advertising material is very misleading and anyone with poorly developed common sense or an IQ under 100 is probably going to get sucked in to something they wouldn't have expected. maybe if you were a little more up front about what you're offering as a service then people wouldn't feel so burned when the invest time+travel+money in to your services. i'm a simple human so my time+money is important to me, and i don't want to waste it being a pawn.
  • john
the prizes are real and the only ppl who dont value the program are those who dont spend enough quality time with their families in the first place. If you dont use it the way its designed then of course its not gonna help you.those who use the program correctly are happier and their children are also.
  • joanne
    well john,
My children are very happy and we take a family vacation every year. that doesn't mean I'm going to SPEND alot of money on it! like you said it's the quality time not How much can we spend on this vacation. well my husband and I did go to one of these. checkbook in our pockets, only to walk out after HIGH VERY INTENSE sales pressure!! not needed!!! not appreciated!! and we had alot of laughs on the ride home, and still do. I really think the only people you sucker into these has got to have an IQ very low. or they are a lawyer looking for a reason to sue. because this company certainly seems to have alot of complaints!! ha ha :) still laughing!!!

We went to Canyon Lake (TX) resort on 01/02/2010 to attend the meeting with sales person at Silverleaf Resort at 12.00 pm. We live in Austin - TX, about 1 1/2 to get there. The sales person showed me the model of resort and had presentation about 2 hours. After the presentation, they forced us to sign up the contract to buy their product. We said we like the program but we are not able to buy it at this time. They really forced us like crazy people, but we still don't buy it. Finally, arround 3.00 pm, they gave up and released us. As they promised on their invitation letter and their brochures: WE RECEIVED 2 (TWO) FREE FLIGHT TICKETS TO LAS VEGAS OR ORLANDO, PLUS 3 DAYS TWO NIGHT ACCOMODATION that good for 12 month, also WE RECEIVED BONUS GIFT FREE 5 DAYS 4 NIGHT STAY in HOLLIDAY INN HOTEL IN CARRIBEAN OR HAWAII that good for 18 month.
I told my wife, we just spent 3 hours meeting with sales person and spent $10 gas, but we got free vacation to Orlando - FL $500 value.
If you go to their invitation, you better stick to your original plan that you go there not for purchasing anything but for 2 (TWO) FREE FLIGHT TICKETS AND 2 NIGHT ACCOMODATION IN LAS VEGAS OR ORLANDO ONLY.
Good Luck and Thank you so much for Silverleaf Resort !!!!!!!!!!!! from Raymond, Debby and Leonard.

First, Thanks to all who posted, I was almost duped. Second.. Everyone keeps mentioning the BBB but nobody has posted the link yet so here it is http://www.bbb.org/dallas/business-reviews/timeshare-companies/silverleaf-resorts-in-dallas-tx-8000090
They Score a 'B' and have over 400 complaints that are registered with them. The complaints range from people that go to get a prize and people that have opted into the timeshare. While the BBB grades people (much like school) from A-F, I'm quite positive the only reason they haven't scored an F is because not everyone files a complaint. While in highschool, it may have been awesome to score a 'B' .... it's not really what you want out of a company. So, thanks again, I did read both good and bad comments but I'm glad I didn't waste the 2 hour drive (one way).
  • nun ya
glad i read all this stuff before going, guess what ?were not going, thanks for the warning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Rich
I'm checking out the 90 min presentation We. i paid $20 and anticipate getting $40 back on an AMX gift card. I also intend to drop $100 and get that back too if I dont use any of the hotel incidentals. So a trip to Vegas 2 nights 3 days hotel and airfare for no cost!!!! I shall let you know how this turns out.
  • lianne
did you end up getting the prizes (or did anyone else for that matter?)? We scheduled a tour for this weekend, with NO intentions to buy, and will have to drive almost 3 hours so I REALLY don't want to go for no reason. I would really appreciate if you could let me know. thank you.
  • Raymond
Lianne, YES, you will receive the guarantee prize as I did. 2 (TWO) FREE FLIGHT TICKET FOR ADULT AND 2 NIGHT ACCOMODATION TO LAS VEGAS OR ORLANDO. At the end of presentation, the sales person will ask you and forced you to but the timeshare. If you don't wanna buy, you have to stick to your plan that YOU GO THERE NOT TO PURCHASE BUT TO GET THE PRIZE. Good Luck.
  • ex employee's wife
No there not all bad people...... because if they dont sell nothing they dont make nothing ......I know this for a fact ..... my husband too is an ex employee of SL and to tell you the trueth there all a bunch of crock.... Dont work there and dont buy there..... they do treat there employees like shit fill them full of BS and expect them to work for FREE ...... There not a family oriented work enviroment ... there training they want to send you halfway across the state but dont want to pay the gas or your time for the training they think you need. Oh an on a small note at least you have the great outdoors literally in your living room and the acitvity staff there is polite.
  • Pat
Anyone have a good lawyer for this?
  • Vpasadena11
Did you get any response for a lawyer? because i would like to look in to get one.
  • Not worth the time...
A few honest, straightforward comments about the experience...

I had never been to a time share meeting, and really knew nothing about time shares, when I received a letter in the mail telling me that I could win 1 of 4 prizes (the car/cash, a shopping spree, an island getaway, or 500 in cash) just for showing up. Additionally, it said, I was guaranteed 1 of 4 trips (bahama cruise, mexican reviera cruise, Orlando, or Vegas).

Having assumed that the presentation wouldn't be so bad, and maybe even something I'd be interested in, I called to make the appointment. I was given no information on age or income qualifications, but was promised the prizes, and given the date/time to come in. When I received the info in the mail, it said that the presentation would be of particular interest to those who are 25-70 years of age, and who make at least $45,000. I actually called to find out if I was even qualified for the prizes, as I am only 24, and make just under $40,000. The woman said that I was qualified--that they changed the age to 21, and didn't care how much I made. She also threw in a $40 gas rebate.

I'm not married, so I brought my Mom with me to the Fox River Valley Resort, in Sheridan, IL. I was promptly hooked up with a sales rep--a younger girl, really nice actually, who rather awkwardly (she had just started two weeks ago) walked us through the pitch, after telling us ocne more of our prizes. "If you had Donald Trump's credit card, where would you buy a vacation house?" We then took a tour of the "resort."

Though the condos were nice, there was nothing really great about the resort that would entice me to come back again and again. Chicago is not exactly close to the resort, and the place doesn't have great amenities, or anything special. Our newbie tour guide/sales rep was good about pointing out the high points, but was too awkward to really be pushy. When we got down to talking about cost, I told her honestly that after seeing everything, the two biggest obstacles to my buying anything were that 1. I wasn't impressed with the resort, and 2. my life is so up-in-air right now in terms of where I'll be living that I wasn't prepared to take that step today. She said that I had to buy today to lock in the deal, and then insisted upon calling her boss over to see if she could bring the price down.

Briefly, for those who care to know, I'll outline the cost. There are three classifications--the Red season covers all four seasons, and buying a time share at that level allows you to use your week any time of the year. The White covers only fall, winter and spring, so you have to use your week then. And Blue covers only winter. I was told that a presidential unit just came into foreclosure, so I could have it at the red level for only about 11,000 dollars--something around 1,800 down, and I forgot how much per month for 36 months. The blue level was about 6,000...around 1,000 down, and the rest over 36 months. Also, after the 36 months you continue to pay a 65.00 per month fee for upkeep. Addditionally, SL is hooked in with something called RCI--which allows you to turn in your week at one of the SL resorts at any number of hotels, for an upgrade fee of $198 for the week. This was attractive to my Mom, who loves Hawaii, and whose favorite hotel there was part of RCI.

Anyhow...the girl's boss came over, and I once again explained my reservations, and also told him that I would not buy anything today, as I don't feel it's prudent to make snap decisions. He kept at it for about 10 minutes, then told me that he'd send someone over to set us up with our gifts.

A third sales rep came over for yet another sell, and this time made some thinly-veiled commentary about how people of higher means than I didn't consider buying into their property to be such a splurge. I told him, frankly, that 1,000 bucks wasn't inconsequential to me, nor should it be. He dropped another offer--150 down, then 85 per month for 10 months, and the use of the resort any time in the next year, and if I agreed to that then I could have the bahaman cruise I was originally promised for free for only 189 dollars. I told him no, that I wouldn't be making any decisions today, but that it really was a great deal, and I'd be thinking about it. He told me that to come back another day would make the same deal 18,000 in cash. Then he told me and my mother to find the "yellow feet" outside...ie. the footprints in yellow paint that lead people out of the building and back to the parking lot, and their cars.

So we were basically told to leave, after 2 and a half hours, without a cruise, trip, prize, or gas rebate. I know that most people would say "why do you feel entitled to any of that?" Perhaps a valid question--however, I didn't seek this place out. They sought me. I wouldn't have just decided to drive 2 hours there, 2 hours back, and shove 2.5 hours of sales pitch in the middle, if before I left someone had told me "by the way, you're not getting any of the incentives." And to boot, the resort wasn't all that great!

I don't have the same anger as some others--no one appeared high, our first female sales rep was a nice girl, we weren't kept waiting, no one was inordinately rude. However, this pitch is definitely not worth the time...

If you get the stuff in the mail, ignore it.
  • Mr Mee
I bought a SLR week and I really have no problem with the whole thing. The sales pressure sucks, but no one forced me into anything. There is an indoor water park and swimming pools I can use all year for free. A local pool member ship is $400 a year anyway. The bigest gripe I have is that the sales me told me the yearly fee was $72 a year. Now that I look at the paper work the fee is $72 a month. $864 per year WTF? They make over $44K per year per room on fees. Hell, I can stay in a nice hotel for a week that price; saying nothing of the price for the deed. Never would have followed through if I had of read the stinking paper work (and there was a $#!t load of paper work). Oh well, "my bad".. All the employees have been very nice. And the condos are nicer or as nice as any hotel The sales men.. well they are sales men and like any other business full crap. Its not just a SLR thing.
  • l h ogle
Oh yeah.... as far as how they even get your info. I have gotten to where I NEVER, EVER, sign up to win a free vacation in the mall or somewhere. That is how they get your info! If you read the fine print on the sign up form, it probably says "sponsored by Silverleaf Resorts". There's other vacation companies like that too.

I've never had a problem with any of the resorts as far as not being kept up.

We did ask about trading our week in The Villages to the one at Canyon Lake, and they wanted to charge us $4000 for that!
  • l h ogle
I don't know about the prize scam for new "members" because we bought our timeshare about 28 years ago. I can tell you this: When we bought, the resorts were not all that fancy and now they have built these fancy condos next to the lake, which makes ours less desirable. The maintenance fees keep going up...for the total of maintenance fees for a year, we could practically stay in hotels for a week! And every month or so they call us to invite us to a free dinner to "inform us of changes". (I have asked them before why they don't just mail it to us.) Anyway, we have gone a couple times and it always ends in an effort to sell us an upgrade to those fancy condos. You know something's up when they want to make sure you AND your spouse can attend.

I guess the timeshares aren't too bad if you really would take a vacation every year anyway. One problem is that in order to get an exchange to a good location, you have to book almost a year in advance, and we never know what our schedules are going to be that far out! We have lost our vacation a couple times because we just couldn't get something scheduled. Other times we have settled for a less than desirable place because it was either that, or loose it. One year my dad died 2 days before our vacation was supposed to start, so obviously, we didn't go and we lost that. Of course now they sell insurance to cover that type of situation...at an ungodly amount. One year I missed my nephew's wedding because we already had our vacation scheduled. Another thing is, Do you really want to spend the entire week at the same place? Often that means you are doing a lot of driving back and forth to see the sights and come back to the resort to sleep!
I'd sell my timeshare if I didn't have to pay someone up front to list it. And if I thought I'd get a decent price. When you look at the resale value vs what they sell for in their "tour", its not a good deal. I figure one day my kids can have it.
  • EX SL Employee/Shit on person
Can you pleaaaaaaaseee delete my previous blog, I'm afraid they will sue me! When you start there, you sign a paper stating that you will not do what I have just done and I should not have mentioned names! Please I recant the previous statement!!!!

hey i got a call about this and i setup an appt for tomorrow but after reading all of these comments i dont think that i am going to go anymore!!!! see ya
  • Seriously Confused
    okay,
well we purchased one of these condo's ....but i read on the contract that we have 6 days to cancel it....does anyone no this to be true???
also what about the week you can take anywhere for 189.00 ?? is this all lies??? can someone please help!!!
  • Happy share owner
I just read all of your complaints, bad language and all. It would be nice, if you could refrain from the bad language. Now, I want you to know that my husband and I own 3 timeshares with silverleaf, and are very happy. We weren't happy with the presentation, but are happy with our condos. We have always been able to get extra time through bonus time, to visit the resort for 2-3 days three times a month if we ask. Never had a problem. Also, we banked a couple of weeks for this year, and when trying to use one week to go to Massachusetts, they gave us a free week, complimentory. Also, they let us use some bonus time during the week, for my husband and other leaders in the church, to bring the boys to use the facilities, and stay in the condo. We have always been treated fairly. Also, when you finish paying the mortgage, the property is still yours to use. Also, the mortgage interest that you pay on the timeshares, is tax deductable, just like a house. These places are not the ritz, but nice lake type cabins, or condos for rest and relaxation. We also received vouchers for the trips, and cruise, but never used them. We are still getting our moneys worth, and the timeshares can be deeded later to our children. If you don't like how they do business, then just say no. Also, none of our reps were using drugs. Thank you for listening to my statement.
  • what to do?
am i a total tard for setting up an appointment. i will most certainly not purchase anything, but i seriously don't have time to waste 90 minutes on lies and no prizes....let alone 5 hours as some of you suggested. it's a LONG drive for me, so if it's really that bogus, i'd like to save myself the trip.
  • anon
Okay. My boyfriend, his best friend, his best friend's fiancee and I went to the timeshare meeting and as promised, received a $40 visa giftcard, already activated and we got all $40 out of it. It's worth 30 minutes of listening to a man speak for pay of $40. They're not bad people either.
  • Anonymous
My mom has a timeshare with slr. and she loves it. She did get her prizes when she went. It's just with the gas vouchers you have to mail them in to get your rebate was the only thing. She also purchased the off season times, and we are actually all going as a family leaving tonight, for a one week, well some of us for the week, some of us have kids in school and can only stay the weekend. We also recieved a card in the mail to make an appointment and when we called and schedualed something came up, so we had to reschedual. The next week I was in an accident and my car needed to be repaired so we called to reschedual again, but decided that we would just not go. The reps. were very nice about this no pressuring nothing they canceled the appointment for us. I still want to concider buying into this as my mom is really not paying that much a month for hers. It is something we can afford and hopefully can do later on. The resort itself is very nice and well maintained. She can also use any of the free facilities anytime, which means we could just go for the day and use their gameroom or mini golf. All in all it really does seem like a good deal. I myself was a skeptic and warned her, even got mad at her for not listening, but if she's happy with it and this weekend turns out to be ok for us, then maybe I was the one that was wrong about all this.

I just want to say thanks to every one who posted their comments and told the truth about how big of a scam sliver leaf is and I would also like to give thanks to this website for listing the comments. I can't believe I almost felt for this scam. I had a huge feeling it was going to be a reap off because theres nothing free in life and pluse I also should i have known something was wrong when i received post card in mail with my address but it was address to a different person and the only reason why I called was because at first they mailed a letter then a post card so i was curious why i kept recieving mail with my correct address but somehow it was address to this other person thats when i calld spoke with a lady and i honestly told her everythng that whats going on and she then askd me did i know this person and whn i said no she then askd me did i want to claim one of the four prizes of course i said yes but i was joking around but some hw i went thru with tha whole process with seting up appointment. However, now thinkin back and after reading all these reap off reports I should have known better and followed my first mind by laughing and throwing that shit n tha trash where it belong!!!

01/05/2009..i used to work for this company and even made it to management. all i can say is watch out. most of the people there are on drugs,(coke, weed, meth, x-tacy,pain killers, etc),espeically the ones you talk to over the phone when they set you up for an appts. i know this because i bought and sold "candy" to upper managment and my employees. what is funny they just drugged tested all their managers and 22 of them at the north richland hills center came up dilluted,,,while 2 others were fired(pain killers and weed). yes this includes divisonals, managers, assistants, and verifiers of running the 2 call centers in arlington and north richland hills. managers of the teams are under enormous amounts of pressure and have their jobs threatened everyday, same with the operators. the company gives away a trip with airfare and hotel rooms,,,but most people dont know they have to travel tues-thurs,,,and have to put down a $100 dollar deposit. and they have to schedule atleast 6 months out. plus their is so many rescrictions on dates that one may travel, which makes this trip bs. then they get 1 of 4 major prizes,,which always ends up being the exotic island trip,,(there is no airfare with this one). be aware if you go to one of their presentations Do Not Buy!! you will have to pay maintence fees every year, and you will never use the place,,and look at the resorts,,i have no clue where those fees go,,the resorts look like crap..i have been. please do this yourself a favor and stay away from these drug addicted money hungary monsters....i left because of the drug activity(yes they would do drugs in the bathroom and sell them on the floor) and the guilt i had of leading people into silverleafs lion den..the sales people are worse than the operators,,,heavy pressure sales(they dont take no for an answer,,even if you said it 20 times),,but of course we tell customers,,no of course its not a high pressured sales,,,lol

Holy Shit. This is a lot of shit here. An yes, I am the company president's son and it is true. This place fucking sucks. But it is making dad rich and he's leaving it to me. I asked dad how much longer he can hold up here and he told me "I don't know, I'm just taking it day by day".
There you have it. I'm not leaving my name so you know it's either me or my brother. Hopefully, you'll think it's him.

So am I already screwed if I just scheduled myself for one of the "90 minute tours" ?

It irritated me when some Stefan Pickrell insisted that I repeat the confirmation phone number back to him 2-3 times. I became even more suspicious than I was in the first place.

This was for Fox something Resorts but my postcard came from Silverleaf Resorts and I asked the original girl on the phone about Silverleaf she stumbled. Red flag?

I mean in the back of my mind what made me call them back after their 3rd or 8th post card was "hey people win publisher's clearing house and the lottery right? maybe..." But this blog/commentary has really scared me.

Nothing is sacred anymore! Trust no one, nothing is free, cynicism is safest. Gah.

So anyone have answers am I screwed already for agreeing to go visit the property? How did they even get my info. I should change my name, move, and never go online ever again. Checks are the way to pay bills I guess and never purchase clothes online! jesus
  • Mother with sick child, need t
My problem doesn't seem to be addressed in any of these posts. I am a divorced mother of two, coming out of bankruptcy due to the divorce. I have WORKED HARD to get my credit back up to good standings, it has been a struggle. I received my postcard at the beginning of my bankruptcy and thought this might be a good thing to have for my children. Also, it would help me build my credit. I signed and have been an Oak n' Spruce owner for about 6 years. As time went on, I ran into many things which told me that I made a huge mistake by buying this. I've tried getting bonus time, sat and waited until 7PM Friday for an opening.....DENIED. I keep getting called out to the resort for my Owner's Meeting "ask any questions you may have, bring two forms of ID and we'll give you $75".... this meeting is not for my benefit. It's a sales pressure meeting to buy more "product". Once I even had a guy roll his eyes at me when I said I can't buy anything else. Every time I go in, I explain that I'm struggling and need to see if there's anyway Silverleaf can take this back.... JUST TAKE IT BACK, and sell it to someone else. Every time they tell me they can lower my monthly payments by... get this..... BUYING A SECOND WEEK!!!!!!!! They want me to commit to giving them thousands more dollars, just after I tell them I'm going without to take care of my children. I don't own a home, paycheck to paycheck. I'm not buying a second week and they know this.... so needless to say I'm on the bottom of the s**t bucket. I've never missed a payment, yet I'm eating ramen noodles daily. Since I signed, I've had a few catastrophies which require more of my stretched income, including a major car accident and my youngest son diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. I can't believe that this company doesn't have a way to release people like me of this obligation.... they'd sooner let a HARD-WORKING MOTHER OF TWO GO DOWN WITH THE SHIP. They won't work with me on even making the payments easier, the DO NOT REFINANCE... "we just don't do that". Bottom line, when I first signed on to this, things were much better. I have been presented with hardships and cannot afford the $320 a month this company is getting from me... still after all these years.... OH, AND ANOTHER THING... when I did first sign, I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WOULD INCREASE IN VALUE!!!!!!!! THEY NEVER TOLD ME THAT I'D HAVE TO KEEP BUYING/UPGRADING FOR THAT TO HAPPEN. I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO BUY MORE, AND NOW I'M TOLD BY TIMESHARE RESELL COMPANIES THAT FOR WHAT I STILL OWE COMPARED TO WHAT IT'S WORTH, I'M SCREWED. I think there should be a Class Action Suit about the scam tactics to get someone to sign. The fact that this week that I own is almost worthless when they told me it would increase in value is GROUNDS ENOUGH FOR A SUIT. I am speaking with my lawyer on this now. Wish me luck. Thanks for listening.

Does anybody realize that one of the posts on this is the President of the company's son? It is pretty bad if your own son says you are all theives.
  • For real?
Holy cow! I really hope those posts from ex-employees are really unhappy customers trying to make the company look bad. I, too, am an ex employee and I can tell you, I feel really bad for all the unhappy people. I worked for SLR for 5 years and yes, I dealt with a large amount of unhappy members but I dealt with many more happy. LAnd I worked hard to make the unhappy members more comfortable with what they purchased. (I did notice that most unhappy people were those that struggled financially and always wondered why would you buy this if you can't afford it?.) I was not involved in sales or customer service. My job was to assist members in reserving their deeded week and bonus time reservations. I did a lot of educating people on how to get the most use out of what they own. If you buy into the off-season, you are only entitled to go during the off-season (blue color time), if you purchase prime season (red) then you're eligible for year round use. SLR is the only company that even offers the option of bonus stays-free during the week, small cost for weekend (had to start charging because demand became so great). Trust me, lots and lots and LOTS of people use this free time. There are people who can take advantage of this program more than others, ie retired and self employed individuals because they can easily vacation during the off season. If you are a teacher or work in a tourist industry and have only a short window of time that you are able to take vacation then your chances of using this program are more limited. Just think about it, each unit has a different owner for each week of the year. If those owners use the week that they purchase then of course there will not be a spot you can use for free. If someone chooses not to use the week they own and do not arrange an exchange, allowing someone else to stay there, then instead of leaving the unit empty for the week, the company hands it over for a bonus time stay. Most families will use the vacation weeks in the summer and holiday seasons. It's the off-season that gives you the best chances of getting a stay. Just calm down and ask someone how it really works. Most people in the company want you to be happy and wouldn't mind walking you through the process. Of course, I'm writing this assuming you have gotten past the "predatory sales person".

You folks are mean people who write this crap. and you are the real problem.

Guys this is really dumb. I have worked many placed over the years and I have to say that Hill country is just fine. we are not mistreated or abused. It is a typical sale company that requires people to show up and do there job. they pay well and feed you free food every week. they treat everyone fine. I would not still be there if they did not. Just so you know the ones that leasve just could not make it happen and that is nt the companies fault. Most employees leave owing the company many advanced bucks. I have to say the drugs that I heard are used is a joke! I work with older men and two of them are pasters at a chruch. Silverleaf also works on Sunday so the paster come in to the resort and we pray and sing together every sunday.get a life people out of all the years that I have been in sale I have never seen a company that puts no pressure on you to buy this. I promise you mostr leave with a hug from the rep and a phone number to keep in touch. This is the real truth.

  • All con artists MUST DIE
WOW! DIRTLE… There is an old saying: Don't piss down my back and tell me it's rainin'! You know, I hate to stoop to insults, but it is after all, the only language you types understands. That said... what an incredibly ridiculous burden to humanity you are. I truly pity pseudo-sub-humans like you. The ones who would commit blanket genocide for a buck if they could get away with it (their own mothers included). These sad creatures are born without the part of the brain that makes the rest of us decent, and … they are the prime reason for all that is and ever was wrong with the world. Two things… ASS! 1. Any idiot can practice and become adept at making shit up to tell people what they want to hear for a buck. Thankfully most of us choose to get real jobs with dignity. Unfortunately, human nature makes lying the easiest gig devised. So don’t pat yourself on the back just yet for living high on the hog with social blood-money. This don’t make you right, it simply makes you a crook without a legacy. You're not strong, you're simply a champion BS artist NM, NL!! And as a professional (con artist), within any business, it is always easy to lie to and convince the layman not privy to the tricks of the trade. This doesn't make them weak for being everyday, normal and wholly decent people trying to enjoy life in peace, it simply makes you a narcissistic, egocentric, and insane oxygen thief to all viable existence. 2. As a con-artist , I’m sure you are familiar with what is known as a tell. Well, I hope you realize that your very comments shows your tell in glaring detail. They reveal in loud true colors of how not only you... but (and I guarantee), many other like-minded septic-tank dwellers of Silver leaf Resorts think. Speaking of genocide, If I could commit it just once, I like to take all beasts like you along with terrorists and other sadists, stick em’ on a giant space shuttle and slowly shoot them into the SUN. Accept in you alls case, it wouldn’t really be genocide, but rather… paracide LOL. Then, and only then, can the rest of us finally work together, in peace to fix the damage you’ve done and then really party like hell!! WHEW! OK, I will step off my soap box now.

P.S. Since we can’t put em' all on a shuttle bound for the sun, then we really need to get together and sue these people. SERIOUSLY
