Awards Verification Center aka Silverleaf Resorts aka – that blue postcard in the mail!

I got a postcard from Awards Verification Center - 2400 W. Pioneer Pkwy, Suite 210 Arlington, TX 76013 and found a hilarious post by a guy who went there just to mess with them. The company seems to be Silverleaf Resorts who also doesnt seem to respect telemarketing laws, got busted by the FCC and has numerous complaints at the Dallas Better Business Bureau (BBB)

I really like how this guy dealt with them. It never astounds me at how stupid American society is to aid and abett a company as corrupt and greedy as this one grow to a Market cap of 88 million. This should be a penny stock, not a $2 stock. These guys have 23 million in net income. This crap drives me crazy.

Ok. everyone recieved letters, if you want to find out what this is all about read the comments from Fernando, and midianite, they explain it well, this is not exactly a scam but a gimmick to get you to drive down and watch their time share presentation, in return they offer you one of 4 free gifts, they say the least amount you can walk away with is $500.00 in cash, which is true, but, they dont mention, that only 20 people will walk away with the $500.00 in cash, the rest of the 53,099 ppl get the exotic 5 day 4 night getaway, which is worth over $800.00, but they fail to mention that thats just part of the value. the rest of the vacation is up to you to pay for. like airfair its not included, so if you do take this opportunity I hope you have the cash to fly to Hawaii. someone mentioned that they took the trip and ended up paying $900.00 on top of the $806.00 voucher. I guess if you are already planning a trip it may save you hotel acc charges, but they make up for it somewhere else, i promise you!

Hmm... I wouldnt call it a "scam"; but it is all for soliciting purposes. When I recieved the card in the mail, I originally brushed it off, but then thought that I would be interested in learning about timeshares. I knew I would have to listen to a sales pitch, and I knew they'd be pushy about it. I didnt expect much for the gifts, because nothing in life is free. However, we went, listened to the salespitch, looked at the property, and were awarded the prizes we were promised in the end. My opinion on the Silverleaf property is that it's not at all for me (too family oriented - I thought the place looked like a summer camp; hardly a vacation spot!) The sales guy was a typical sales guy; everytime I pointed out something I wasnt impressed with, he would try to convince me otherwise; when I declined the offer to become an owner, he got the manager (who was a douchebag) to try and pressure us into buying with a "special" unbeatable deal... and he DID offer us a great price, we just werent at all interested in their property.
When it was all said and done, we were given our vouchers for a Caribbean vacation... of course we didn't win the $49,000, but I certainly wasn't expecting to. I'm sure when I book my "free" vacation it will cost me some taxes and fees, but hey, I'm saving money on hotel accommodations. All in all, I would not call it a "scam"; they really just want to try and sell timeshares to anyone they can. My husband and I agreed that it was worth the trip just to learn about how timeshares work; we plan to purchase one in the future, just not through Silverleaf, but that's only because we are not a "family-friendly vacation" type couple...
  • Scammed
I got my post card saying I won a cruise or trip, a car or money, and other things. It doesn't mention timeshares and says I don't have to purchase anything to claim my prize. The only problem is that when I called to claim my prize they said I didn't win the car or money or trips and when would I like to discuss buying a timeshare. I got all excited for nothing and now I have them calling about timeshares almost everyday. It's extremely annoying.
  • vishal katal
sir i get a msg from ur mobi fund that i am awarded with 500,000euro.but i have not get any reply from ur cocacolaclaimcenter 10.
  • I'm not sure why so many people have a problem with this letter. It clearly states it is a solicitation and if you're half literate, you can safely assume that:
-they want your money, first (As with any business)
-you probably wont win anything significant, and
-you'll have to pay taxes on the getaway trip

All that said, it STILL sounds like a great deal. I've done a few of these timeshare giveaways and I'll keep doing them...I love travelling an have no qualms about saying "no." Just say no during the presentation and enjoy your ALMOST free getaway. What's the problem?
  • robertrios
Silverleafclub? Buyers beware!!!They will promise ANYTHING as long as they can make a sale. When you mention the promise a month after you buy the week, they never promised anything.Again, buyers beware
  • DON'T DO IT... I WENT TODAY
4/9/10... DON'T DO IT!!!! I went today and the sales people are good... Basically you purchase a time share that allows you 1 week out of every year at one of their locations. The time share cost $15,500 and you have to put 25% down that day which is around $4000 and then you pay $478 a month for 36 months.... The cost doesn't end there. After the 36 months your responsible for about $65 a month in maintance fees... So, after your 25% down, $478 month payments for 36 months, your still looking at close to spending $800 a year forever just to keep your timeshare. OKAY NOW LETS TALK ABOUT THESE GIFTS THEY GIVE YOU... WHICH IS A BUNCH OF B-S. I did get a $40 gift card (american express) but it was not worth the 3+ hours I spent there. I also a trip for two which only includes the hotel stay at my choice of Jamica, Aruba, Hawaii, or Puerto Rico... This doesn't include airfare, taxes, meals, etc... I also got a cruise for two... but I would still have to pay $179 per person to take that cruise because it doesn't cover the taxes and you have to purchase all of your drinks. This was a big waste of time. The sales guy asked me how would I like to take care of the 25% down payment today... I WAS LIKE UMMMMMMM... DON'T YOU THINK $4000 IS A LOT TO BE ASKING OF ME WHEN THERE WAS NO MENTION PRIOR TO THE MEETING THAT I WOULD BE EXPECTED TO DISH OUT $4000

Uhm yea...I just called the infamous "AVC Claim Center" and told them where to go. I have had it with these "promotions". Where do I go to complain about them?
  • sableindian
Yes, I went to the one in Flint and invited my girlfriends for the weekend. I'm 60 and it's a great place to get away from family and work. Also, I went in October and I was the only one at the water park. Weeee.
And guess what, you can bring your own movies to view in the theater. Just a very good time. People are always trying to buy this from me. I'm paying this off and leaving it to my kids.
  • Fernando
I got one of these flyers also. The one I received was from AVC Travel (A.K.A. Silverleaf Resorts) I actually bought into it. Figured what the heck, ill go out there and bu as stuborn as a brick wall, and walk out with the $500 bucks! So I called them and made a reservation to go out there one weekend. But then that saturday came around and i didnt end up going. (I just didnt feel like it, its was a 2 hour drive for me) But after that is when the "telemarketer" side of these people came out. They were calling, and calling and calling me after that wanting to know why I didnt show up. I told them sonething came up. They rescheduled me for the following weekend. And they said they would mail me some more info and directions. Well I was supposed to go today I was almost going to go but as I was looking through the info they sent me I found some info in very small print.

    ODDS OF WINNING:
    1) New Vehicle retail value $49,000 or $49,000 cash 1 : 53,130
    2) $1,500 Shopping Spree to store of your choice 10 : 53,130
    3) Exotic five day four night Island Getaway retail value $806 53,099 : 53,130
    4) $500 Cash 20 : 53,130

Note: Voucher for Exotic Getaway must be registered within 60 days and allows one year to select and complete travel. You must pay a $50 refundable deposit prior to making a reservation. Certain blackout dates apply for some destinations. Reservations are subject to availability and some restrictions apply. Travelers must be 21 years of age and are responsible for any applicable local, state or federal taxes as well as airfare, transportation, gratuities, MEALS, and incidentals.

So If you actually go to their "tour" which one do you think they will give you? Thats right the "free" exotic getaway. I been on a cruise and you spend just about as much on the ticket as you do other things while you are actually on it and im not interested in that.

So i called them back just now. and told them I am not going, please take my name off your calling list. I was placed on hold and a woman answered. She was obviously a specialist in dealing with upset customers because she had all the right answers. But I was not changing my mind. BUT SHE SAID SHE COULD NOT CANCEL MY RESERVATION ONLY RESCHEDULE (in other words they will not stop calling) I just hung up.

I sure hope they do not call anymore but does anyone have any suggestions on what to do if they do not stop calling????? The worst part is they are calling to my cell phone!
  • ritajones
Today I recieved a letter through the mail and it said that I had won a 4-day cruise to the Carribean or Mexican Riviera Itinerary and to call 1-800-327-4614. This actually looked like a boarding voucher with a serial number on it... OMG:( I call the AVC Travel DISBRRSEMENT DIVISION 6321 BLVd.26 Suite 450 North Richland Hills, TX 76180 and they had a very bad disposition the women was talking to me very aggresively and all I was trying to do is claim my prize nicely ( because I was happy to get it so I thought) I asked her what date do she have available that I can go and take my trip to the Carribians. She told me a differnt story from what the voucher sent me. The rep told me I was suppose to go to Tyler,Tx and claim my prize. All they wanted me to do was purchase shares to a cabin that cost money ( I thought it was a free win to a exotic vacation)... That was really stupid. I asked the rep. the name of the company she works with and she got fighting mad. If I had been in her presence I'm sure she would have become very violent with me. She really had a anger problem . I asked to speak to the supervisor and SHE give the phone to another rep. and HE gave the phone to another rep. and so forth. They were playing so many games on the phone. This is not a professional company nor is it a legit one. My honest personal opinion--- BEWARE THE DOGS DO BITE!!! They don't care about anybody nor their feeling. When I got off the phone I felt really abused. I then thought why is their so many customer service reps. abusing innocent people for no reason at all? THE REAL GUESS IS: They all are hurt themselves and a bird of a feather flock togather. Can someone please SHUT this company down!!!! From the head to the tail is no good. BEWARE OF MAD DOGS!!!

I received the same first notice that many of you are familiar with,
Searched the web for any pertinent information and found many complaints including those here, and trashed the first paper.
Then I received the blue card, which went straight into file thirteen.
Then I received the yellow "final notice," and went back to check the complaints again.
Which is when I decided, "well I'm going to try it."

Other than time, what can I lose, I'm not going to buy anything from them and I would estimate that I have about the same, or better, odds of winning as I would have with buying a state lottery "scratch and sniff."

I procrastinated several times over the next couple of days and very nearly didn't go.
Especially after I received the "invitation" that would get me into the resort.
In the fine print included with this invitation, I read on the back that!
There was "one" $49,000 prize that would be awarded.
There was "ten" $1,500 shopping sprees that would be awarded.
There was "twenty" $500 cash prizes that would be awarded.
There was 53,130 of the "instant gold" scratch and sniff cards issued.

Gathering this information, it is easily determined that there is one grand prize to be awarded, ten second prizes, 53,099 third prizes to be awarded and twenty of the "minimum" prizes to be awarded.
The scam and hook is that the average person receiving this "invitation" is going to look at the "minimum" prize of $500, and generally conclude that.
"Well, I'm going to "at least" receive 500 bucks for taking a couple of hour trip, and listening to a couple of hour sales pitch."

    WRONG!
The "prize" that you are virtually guaranteed to receive is one valued "purportedly" at over 800 bucks.
    Hey! That's a good thing.
Until you really consider all the options.
That prize valued at over $800 is in actuality a prize that "IS GOING TO COST YOU,"
Air fare to the islands where you will receive "free" hotel accomodations for five days and four nights.
How much is air fare to Hawaii from where you live?
At least $436 from Houston to Hawaii, which doesn't include "having any fun or seeing any sights while there.
To top that off, you have to pay 100 bucks up front just to confirm the reservations, and $179 per person for government fees and taxes.
So for two people I have to pay "at least" $964, to receive the $806 prize.
In my personal opinion, you haven't received a "prize" when it is something that you have to pay more for than what the prize is actually worth.
And with this, that is exactly what you have to do.
Pay more to actually get the prize than what the prize is actually worth.

    I have hotel accomodations for two in Aruba, Oahu, Maui, Montego bay, or San Juan that must be "confirmed" within 60 days, that can be used any time within the next year;
    And
I have a 4 night island cruise for two on one of the princess cruises, that must be confirmed in 60 and used within the next year.

I "WILL NOT" be using them.
Anyone interested in a vacation trip to Hawaii for two,
    or an island cruise?
Who has the money to fly to Hi in order to get the free hotel accomodations,
    or etc.?
I could be easily talked out of these "valuable" vacation packages that "have no names listed on the paper work," and can thus be transfered to another party.
Or I can use the paper work as a fire starter.

My husband and I would like to get out of it and we need your help. Will give you a call.
  • Amy, Pasadena TX
Well, I did fill out an entry card at the mall, and they called me, Stating I "WON". LOL SO i dragged my husband with me, and we went in with an open mind. The facility was not bad, but they were pressuring us bad. I just wanted my prizes. I did get the cruise and 4night hotel stay in Aruba. So, their goal is to tell you the prize, and once they got you cornered, They push you and pressure you. The salesmen are pretty DARN GOOD. I was about to just buy the damn thing so they'd leave me alone. haha! But my husband said, "Sorry guys, and My wife and I gotta go." He stood up and we went off to get my little prizes they promised me. Ill post after I take my vacations, and let you know if all went well. THX Silverleaf in Conroe, Texas

    Love me,

How would you like to be solicited to purchase a coke? Would you enjoy Coca Cola calling you at work, informing you that you've won a lifetime supply of their products, only to find out that you had to physically schedule an appointment with them, and learn what you really "won" was one soda bubble and the can took 3 hours to open? Not only that but Coca Cola isn't really Coca Cola, rather it's Blue Ribbon. This love me, is called false advertising.

Silverleaf can put up a billboard, magazine ad, web banners like every other respectful company. Unsolicited cold calling is a slimy and ineffective way to gain clientele. If people REALLY want a time share, they'll do their research like people research for any other product. If i want a Coke, I go to the store and get one.

BTW, there's a new law that when you sign up for an online service or purchase anything online that having a check box that offers other solicitations marked automatically yes (without user's action) is now illegal according to the newest spam laws. It's no longer a reputable business practice. Ask your legal dept. Expect lots of class action lawsuits S.L.

S.L. is not immune to the principles of basic supply and demand. Just be ethical. It's not that hard.
  • TJ
THANK YOU (in all CAPS)! Just received my Boarding Voucher for a 4-day cruise, an electronic passenger and baggage check claim AND the letter congratulating me--unemployed and can't pay my cell phone. AVC Travel is doing pretty good in our recession. If you read the very bottom "This material is used for the purpose of soliciting timeshare sales." I'd rather have the Mercedes.
  • Seething and Plotting
I have kept almost every scrap of material that Silverleaf sent me. I have 2 of 3 awards notification letters, one blue and one yellow. Neither of them give a clue that they are anything more than awards notifications. Not a word about timeshare or Silverleaf on either of them.

I signed a contract with Silverleaf. I actually saw more than one offer. They started me at a $12k package that would have given me a week every year at one of their resorts (plus whatever other weeks I could reserve in advance for other facilities). I objected to the 17.36% interest rate that Silverleaf charges and I refused to sign that contract. So, the salesman offered me an $8k package for a week every-other year, again at 17.36% interest. In addition to the price, Silverleaf also charges a maintenance fee in the ballpark of $100 a month, depending on the contract. These are insane prices, and the contracts have no escape clause except what state law requires. So, state law needs to pressure Silverleaf to behave more ethically.

I was able to terminate my contract, because Silverleaf made some mistakes in their presentation that could have given me grounds for a criminal suit against them.

These guys are psychological headhunters. They fool you into thinking that it is a 90 minute tour and I walked out of that "cult" 5 hours later. Although I changed my mind about the "bad decision" that I made- the pricks tell me that I could not get my money back-although the clause states I have 6 days...im calling the corporate office next- I hope I have better luck. I did walk away 3 trips- hopefully these are not scams as well!

  • Current Owner
I read comment after comment from those that went in to Silverleaf Vacation Resorts out of pure greed. You received a phone call or a letter telling you that you won this great prize. It would have been so easy to say no or to file 13 the letter, but a change to win money, a new car, or even a trip is too hard to pass up. So they march in one after another blind, cripple, and crazy. Some take off work, some have no jobs at all, white, black, others, old, young, and yes even those in wheel chairs and with oxygen tanks. All behind greed! Many of you will stand in line and wait for hours for things that we have to pay for, doctor visits, sporting events, entertainment complaining the whole time. But Silverleaf tells everyone up front that there is no obligation to buy. So they show up with their attitudes sit down in beautiful waiting areas and are served by a hostess or allowed to serve themselves buffet style while they wait on a representative to greet them and take them on tour. Some are pleasant and some are just down right rude as if someone made them come. "WAKE UP PEOPLE, NO ONE CAN MAKE YOU DO ANYTHING" Just say no! They go into the sales area and are told how the program can work for them and/or their family. They are taken on a tour of the facility and then brought back to the sales area and asked, what they think of what they are being offered. I can easily say 90% of those toured say the same thing. I like it, I would use it, I just can not afford either the down payment or the monthly. A Silverleaf Sales Managers job is help and find a solution to their immediate problem. The problem and time wasted comes from all the web of lairs that are told when the manager is trying to help them. Look, no one comes to buy a 100% of the people that show up for the tours are there for one reason and one reason only. The free gifts! It is truly amazing how long a person will wait and what a person will endure for a free gift. Just leave. No one can make you stay. The doors are not locked. Everything it explained verbally and in writing and they still go home saying they were not told something. What a cop out. Truth be told, most are caught up in the moment and are not man or woman enough to omit it. So they result in making claims of "I wasn't told". Well bless your little dumb hearts. I have been a Silverleaf owner for 8 years now. My family and I take 3 vacations a year though RCI and take advantage of the weekend getaways to the 6 resorts in Texas at least 10-12 times a year. Our deed has been paid for 3 years now and just like a home even though it is paid for, it still has to been maintained and at $65.00 a month it is worth it to us. My wife is a very smart woman, a Tax Accountant for a Homeland Security Department. I remember driving out to Tyler, Texas for our tour. It was a good drive and we stopped along the way to eat and in Canton to look at some antiques. When we arrive at the Villages, I was surprised at how beautiful and clean the property was. We were greeted in about 20-30 minutes. In the meantime we enjoyed the refreshment and talked. The whole process was a little time consuming but painless. The Manager that helped us showed us different options to get involved that ranged from no way today to maybe. After it was all said and done, I told the Manager no. The only thing he said was "are you sure that we can not help you today". Boy did I feel high pressured! Before he could excuse himself my wife asked him if he could leave the table for a moment. After he left she told me that respected my decision as the head of our house. But she went on to say that I am ok sitting at home watching my sports package, but that she wanted for the two of us and my baby girl to vacation more. We called him back and brought the cheapest package which was a blue deed that only gave you excess mostly during the winter months. (You get what you pay for) People always want first class but want to pay coach. Today we own Red and can not be happier. No company is perfect and we have had a few bad experiences while visiting the resort even through RCI. Bad experiences happen but every single time someone handle the problem quickly and professionally. As of January 1, 2009 we have saved over $589.00 per year and will be willing it to our daughter in hopes that she will one day take our grand kids to Silverleaf Resorts property. I wish Silverleaf had a way to weed out sorry dumb greedy misinformed people like those who have posted comments on this site. Mostly all the negative comments spoke about how long it took. I would be willing to bet that most of the people that go to the tours do not make $20.00 an hour. That they don't get to sit in a beautiful facility that Silverleaf provides doing nothing but sitting listening and enjoying free refreshment. So do the math, is time is well compensated. Doing nothing but relaxing for 3 hours as some have said, free refreshments and gifts that are valued over a $1000.00. You must lead very boring and nonproductive lives that you would get angry about how long the tour took but you would talk about taking time out of your busy lives for free to so call warn people of your ignorance. Wow! Get a life and a clue.

I JUST WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW THAT SILVERLEAF IS NOT A SCAM, THERE ARE LOTS OF PLACES OUT THERE THAT ARE, BUT THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM.. THE DO EXACTLY EVERY THING THEY SAY THEY ARE GOING TO DO. YOU DO WIN TRIPS AND THINGS LIKE THAT, SO WHAT IF ITS NOT THE BIGGEST PRIZE THEY HAVE, THATS NOT THE POINT OF GOING! THE POINT IS TO GO WITH AN OPEN MIND AND SEE WHAT THEY HAVE TO OFFER. HELLO PEOPLE! AND FOR THAT GIRL THAT IS AN OWNER AND SAYS THAT SHE DONT WANT TO MAKE HER PAYMENTS BECAUSE SHE IS BARLEY MAKING IT YOU SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT IT BEFORE YOU DECIDED TO BUY THE DEED AND THEN EVEN AFTER THAT YOU SHOULD HAVE LISTEN TO WHAT THEY TOLD YOU < BECAUSE THE EXPLIAN EVERYTHING VERY WELL AND IF YOU DONT ASK QUESTIONS THEN YOULL NEVER KNOW! THEY ARE VERY NICE PEOPLE, IT IS A BEAUTIFUL FACILITY. AND ITS DONT EVEN COST TOO MUCH AT ALL, SOME PEOPLE ARE JUST STUPID.. I RECOMEND YOU GOING AND TRYING IT FOR YOURSELF

My advice to you: instead of buying something from Silverleaf take a course in English at a local college.

I can tell you that you are wrong. They don''t do what they promise. To get me to buy the week they promised, four times in the same meeting, that I would get a call to an update meeting every month to help me pay for the week.I never got a call to any meetings. They also "forgot" to mention that that week could only be used at The Villages.I found out that two months later, and only because they wanted me to upgrade, therefore spend additional money.Had they mention this the first time I would not have purchased it since it is so far from my home in New York state. There are other minor infractions on their part, and I am sorry I ever got into this timeshare business.Sorry to disappoint you.
  • Thanks for the yahoo and google web site.finally talk some sense to my son.

My husband and I have been a part of the Silverleaf family for over 21 years and we love it! We now own 2 weeks. We got into it with the little card too offering "free" gifts-those were are cheep dates in college it was or challenge to figure out the "catch" in the prize and then see if were were right we just went for fun but then liked what they had to offer. We had been to MANY timeshare presentations and Silverleaf was the first and only to have time in addition to your week to use and that sounded good to us! Like I said, we now own two weeks and really enjoy them very much. The bonus time is the best. Yes it's trick to get at busy times but if you look at your lifestyle honestly and have the ability to be flexible then it does work. We have eight kids and if it were not for silverleaf there is no way we could go on vacations. They do have pressure sales but that is how they make their living. Do your research and take a honest look at you life. If it is something you can afford and you will use it it is a great deal! Like anything else, it's not worth the money if you don't use it. As for the "scam" gifts-they are always what they promise, you just have to read all the information. A chance to win a car is not a car.
excuse my spelling and type o's it is late and I really do have eight children so I am not always on top o things-just a little crazy.

Wow! You started off saying you had better things to do then go online and look up message boards. Then you ended with I will be one a few times a week. HMMM? What's wrong business a little slow? Oh i mean can't find enough people to call 30 times a day to scam them out of their money. Once someone calls your number, even if you tried to say no, they would keep talking about all the amazing shit you can win. Even if you hang up they call you back twenty more times. Then you end up making an appointment just so you guys will stop calling at all hours every hour. Then if you cancel they ask why? Which is none of your business, but it's because you guys are scammers. Then they call another 20 times. Honestly, what the whole thing boils down to is harrassment. When someone says No thanks I am not interested. Your response, as any one who works answer phones would know, should be "OK, thank you anyways have a nice day" Learn the wordsand use them. Just a tip, if you had done this from the beginning you wouldn't have to read about your crappy company online, and then try and defend it. Ya your not bad mouthing anyone.....you just think their ridiculous. I won't be back to check this three times week like you. I hope my comment has helped fill your work day a llittle. Cuz people don't really like to be harrased and scammed. Good Luck and remember NO MEANS NO!!!!
